Bounce Protection FAQ
What is Bounce Protection?
Bounce Protection is an overdraft privilege limit that is automatically assigned to your account. There is no action required on your part. You do not need to sign anything.
How does Bounce Protection work?
As long as you maintain your account in good standing (defined as making regular deposits and bringing your account to a positive balance at least once every 30 days), Beacon Bank may honor overdrafts up to the Bounce Protection limit on your account.
What does Bounce Protection cost?
There is no additional cost associated with this privilege unless you use it. However, you should keep in mind that you will be charged our stardard NSF fee of $30 for each item paid under the limit. For example, three paid items in one day will result in $90 in NSF fees.
What is my Bounce Protection limit? If I have two checking accounts, can I get Bounce protection on both?
Locate your account type below and make note of the corresponding limit. If you have multiple acounts for your household, you may have a limit on each eligible account.

| Beacon Rewards Checking |
$500 |
| Economy Choice Checking |
$ 500 |
How do I know when I use the overdraft limit? What if I go beyond my Bounce Protection limit?
You will receive an overdraft notice in the mail each time items are paid. Overdrafts above and beyond your established Bounce Protection limit may result in a check or checks being returned to the payee. The standard NSF fee will be charged per item and assessed to your account. So as not to exceed your limit if you use Bounce Protection, you should note that the amount of the overdraft plus our standard NSF fee of $30 for each item will be deducted from your overdraft limit.
How quickly must I repay my Bounce Protection?
You should make every attempt to bring your account to a positive balance within 30 days. If you are not able to do so, you will receive a letter from Beacon Bank informing you of the situation and your options. If, after a period of time, your account has not been brought to a positive balance, we may suspend your overdraft privilege limit and take other steps to recover funds.
How soon can I use my Bounce Protection?
If you are a new active account holder, you may be able to use the overdraft privilege limit assigned to your acount 30 days after the account is opened.
What are some of the ways I may have access to my Bounce Protection limit? Will my limit be reflected in the balance I receive?
By keeping accurate records and knowing your balance, you can avoid mistakenly accessing your limit and incurring NSF fees. The best way to do this is to use your checkbook register to keep track of your deposits, written checks, withdrawals, and ATM or check card transactions. Always reconcile your register with your monthly bank statement.
What if I do not want to have Bounce Protection on my checking account?
In the event you would like to have this service removed from your account, you may do so by calling the branch office nearest you. However, once this service is removed, you should keep in mind that if an item is presented for payment and there are not sufficient funds in your account, the item may be returned to the payee and our standard NSF fee of $30 will be charged per item.
Identity Theft
What is identity theft?
Identity theft, also known as identity fraud, is the misappropriation of another person's information in order to fraudulently derive financial gain. The perpetrator, using the victim's personal information receives financial gain in the form of credit from banks and retailers, gains access to the victim's existing accounts, is able to establish new accounts with banks and retailers, can apply for automobile and other loans, can apply for a job, and even file bankruptcy under the stolen identity. It is quite possible the impersonator can steal thousands of dollars in the victim's name over several months before the victim learns of the problem. When the thief moves onto another person, the victim is left with the unwelcome tasks of trying to untangle the financial and credit mess and regain his/her reputation and identity.
How does the thief steal someone's identity?
The thief only needs your social security number, your date of birth, and other idenifying information such as your address or phone number. Once armed with this information, the thief can easily obtain a false driver's license with his/her picture. Through the use of the false driver's license, the thief will often submit a change of address for your bank statements, credit card bills and other important financial related correspondence.
Where does the thief obtain personal information?
Identity thieves employ both low-tech and high-tech means to acquire information. Lost/stolen wallets, carelessly discarded bills, bank statements, and other financial information in the trash and theft from mailboxes provides an abundance of information and provides the theif with all the information he/she needs to begin the process of stealing your identity. Although identity theft is not a new problem, the Internet has accelerated the problem.

Should I apply for a new social security number if my identity is stolen?
This is easier said than done. In most cases, not a good idea. Your social security number is an integral part of your identity and is nearly permanently attached to your credit report and government documents. Futhermore, the Social Security Administration is reluctant to issue new social security nubmers. Your credit report will continue to reflect your old number and this may appear suspicious to new creditors or potential employers and cause you further problems.
Are there any laws against identity theft?
Yes. In 1988, Congress passed the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act which makes the use of another person's identification with the intent to commit fraud a felony. Click to view state identity theft laws.
