What documents are required to open a Business Deposit Account?


Business Ownership Type

Required Documents to Open an Account

Sole Proprietor
  • If applicable, a Certificate of Assumed Name
Partnership          
  • Partnership Agreement (if there is no agreement, provide a statement stating so with all partners' signatures) or filed Limited Partnership Agreement.  A copy of the Limited Partnership Agreement that is not filed may be accepted until the state filing is complete.
  • If applicable, Certificate of Assumed Name
  • If applicable, the LLP registration form filed with the state
  • Limited Partnership must file a certification of the partnership information with the state in which the business has its principle location and must include the term limited partnership or LP in their legal name.
  • Limited Liability Partnerships or Professional Limited Liability Partnerships must include LLP or PLLP in the account titles.
Limited Liability Company
  • Articles of Organization
  • Operating Agreement
  • If applicable, a Certificate of Assumed Name
  • Limited Liability Companies must include LLC in the account title.
Corporation
  • Articles of Incorporation or a Certificate of Good Standing
  • Corporate Resolution
  • If applicable, Certificate of Assumed Name

Incorporated or Unincorporated
Unincorporated Associations or
Organizations or Non-Profits

  • When the account is opened in the name of the organization, all of the qualification criteria of the entity type, such as corporation, of the organization must be met.
  • The account can earn interest if the business qualifies as a non-profit organization.  A letter of determination from the IRS or other documentation evidencing tax status is required.

Is a Social Security number necessary to open a business account?

Yes, every signer on an account must provide a social security number.

How do I add an additional signer to an existing business account?

To add an additional signer, you will need to update your current signature card or, depending on the type of business you maintain and the type of account you have, you may need to open a new business account.  To find out what is required in your particular case contact CustomerService.

How do I change my name on my business checking or savings account?

In order to change your name on an account, you need to complete a new signature card.  Contact CustomerService and we can help you with your request.
