Acceptable Forms of ID

We want to verify who you are so you can open an account with us.

Ready to open a Berkshire Bank account? Please show us your ID.

We want to make it as easy as possible to open an account, but we also need to confirm your identity to fight fraud and ensure security. Please provide a primary source of identification from the list below. If that's unavailable, we will accept two of the listed secondary ID sources. One must contain a photograph.

Acceptable Primary Sources of Identification
  • US driver’s license (in or out-of-state)
  • US passport
  • Firearms identification card
  • US Armed Forces identification
  • Identification issued by a state agency (e.g., Registry of Motor Vehicles)
  • Tribal Enhanced Identification Card (ETC) 
Acceptable Secondary Sources of Identification
  • Employment Identification Card from a U.S. Employer
  • U.S. Employment Authorization Card
    • Not valid for check cashing
  • Voter registration card
  • State Issued Driver’s privilege card
  • Credit Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card
  • Voter Registration Card
  • Recent Utility Bill containing the name and physical street address of the person
  • Property Tax Bill containing the name and physical street address of the person
  • Copy of Lease/Tenant Agreement
  • US Certificate of Citizenship or Certificate of Naturalization
  • Student Identification Card
  • Firearms License
  • Recent Financial Statements or Tax Returns
  • Tribal ID card from a Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) recognized tribe (either ETC or non-ETC issued cards) 
Additional Notes
  • Two secondary sources of identification may be used if a primary source of identification is not available. One must contain a photograph.
  • Consular identification cards, Passport Cards, e-licenses, and foreign drivers’ licenses are NOT acceptable identification for account opening.
  • Any ID that is expired will not be accepted for any reason.
  •  For U.S. persons holding a compliant REAL ID driver’s license or state identification, or holding an U.S. passport (except passport cards): 
    • No additional form of documentary identification is required unless there is evidence of tampering or suspicions about the person’s identity.
