Mendon Twin Drive-in: A beloved institution ready for generations to come
When the Andelman brothers decided to buy the Mendon Twin Drive-In, a beloved New England institution for families since 1954, it was easy to see how some enhancements they envisioned would help the Mendon, Massachusetts, business thrive. Others weren’t as obvious.
"A drive-in is a very unique business, and we had a very unique vision, so we needed a bank that would take the time to listen and work with us," the brothers said. “Beacon Bank understood what we were trying to build and helped make it possible.”
‘Financing more than improvements’
The obvious projects that would help the bottom line: Adding a beer garden and stage, doubling the size of the ice cream stand and expanding the snack bar menu, and introducing radio rentals for easier outdoor listening that didn’t drain car batteries.
But they also wanted two state-of-the-art projectors for each movie screen, wiring the facility for music and announcements that could reach more than 1,000 clients across 16 acres, and doubling the size of the ladies’ room.
“We wanted to keep all the family-focused nostalgia everyone loved and make it even better,” they said. “Beacon Bank understood it was financing more than improvements. It was supporting a way to keep one of New England’s most iconic entertainment destinations thriving for generations to come.”
‘Every business has a unique story’
Chris Kostiw, Division Head, Commercial Lending, said it’s always been clear that the drive-in had a devoted fan base that could continue to grow as the Andelman brothers turned their vision into a reality.
“Every business has a unique story,” Kostiw said. “Our role is to build solutions that support our clients’ vision and position them for long-term success.”
That relationship-first approach stood out to the Andelmans and reinforced a lesson the brothers learned from their father, the late sports media pioneer Eddie Andelman.
"Our Pop taught us the importance of having a close relationship with a bank," the brothers said. "You want the bank to know you and understand you, so they're ready when you need them. It was one of the best lessons he taught me. For us, that bank is Beacon Bank."
