Beacon Bank launches annual food drive to combat food insecurity in RI

Donations collected at all RI branches from July 6 to Aug. 14

PROVIDENCE, July 6, 2026 — Beacon Bank today kicks off its annual summer food drive in partnership with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to help combat food insecurity. The drive will run through Aug. 14.

Donations of non-perishable food may be made during operating hours in collection bins at any of Beacon Bank’s 23 branch locations across Rhode Island. In all, 14 food pantries across the state will benefit from the six-week food drive and the generosity of their surrounding communities.

“Our focus has always been on serving our local communities and responding to their most pressing needs,” said Will Tsonos, president of the bank’s Rhode Island region. “Too many families are facing real challenges putting food on the table. This effort is about coming together as a community to make sure support reaches those who need it most.”

Each Beacon Bank branch is partnered with a local food pantry so all donations will remain in the community where they are collected. Items that are needed most include peanut butter, tuna, canned and dried beans, cereal, rice, canned chili, soups and stews, pasta, tomato sauce, canned fruits and vegetables, and macaroni and cheese.

“On behalf of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Beacon Bank for their support of our mission,” said CEO Melissa Cherney. “Partnerships like this help ensure that neighbors across our state have access to the nutritious food they need and reflect a deep investment in the well-being of our entire community.”

In all, 23 of Beacon Bank’s branches are in Rhode Island. They are in Cranston (4), Warwick (3), Providence (2), East Providence (2), Newport, Middletown, Coventry, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, Wakefield, Westerly, Johnston, Lincoln, Pawtucket, Smithfield and Woonsocket.
